A good dose of sleep often demarcates a good day from a bad day. Although the importance of sleep has been promoted across all cultures and ages, it is only in the recent decades that scientists have unearthed how sleep plays a crucial role in ensuring physical and mental well-being. Due to the bidirectional relationship between sleep and mental health, sleep problems are responsible for the onset as well as the worsening of mental disorders. The lack of good sleep has the potential to trigger the symptoms of various mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety disorders and psychosis. Sleep problems are also one of the warning signs of ADHD, mood disorders and even Alzheimer's disease. Unfortunately, sleep problems and mental illnesses oftentimes aggravate each other. Therefore, it is extremely important to maintain a healthy sleep cycle to prevent and reduce the impact of psychiatric illnesses.
