Hysterectomy and Hair Loss

Hysterectomy refers to a surgical procedure whereby the uterus is removed, of which does not affect the hormone levels in either pre or postmenopausal women. However, if necessary an additional procedure to a hysterectomy may also include the removal of the ovaries. The removal of ovaries in pre-menopausal women during a hysterectomy can lead to a sudden drop in levels of the ovarian hormones progesterone and estrogen which is termed as surgical menopause.
